Lean pets have happier cells: Not all calories are created equal

We all love our pets and want them to be happy and healthy, but sometimes the things we give them makes their cells very unhappy.
Studies continue to prove that an overweight cat or dog, even though they are still not technically obese, still have a higher chance to get certain diseases like cancer, diabetes, thyroid disease, to name just a few!
Of course, we don’t want that, so what do we do? What do we feed? Simple.
Cutting calories is of course essential to weight loss, but also remembering that not all calories are created equal, and since inflammation feeds obesity, there are two things we can do that are in our control:
  1. Remove foods that actually cause inflammation. I call it ‘non-functional’ foods, kind of like us eating a cookie, it’s just empty calories, not nutritious whatsoever. Cut out pro-inflammatory ingredients that contain artificial flavors, added antibiotics and hormones, sugar, high levels of pesticides and GMO foods, as well as high GI (high-glycemic) carbohydrates. Unfortunately, and there is no going around this, most kibbles on the market are laden with this garbage, including pet treats and chews.
  2. Feed plenty of fat-fighting, anti-inflammatory foods that are also what I call ‘functional foods’, foods that will contribute to your pet’s health in a positive way. Usually with nutrient dense foods you can actually feed less of. Have you ever had a cookie and wanted one or two or three more? Have you ever had a nice organic apple and thought the same? Usually when we give our bodies what it actually needs, we don’t really have cravings for more, or cravings at all.
Some fat fighting food and supplements I like to recommend are; coconut oil, omega-3s, L-Carnitine and probiotics.
So, what is the best diet that you can feed to eliminate this problem or better yet, prevent it?
A balanced quality raw diet. Surprised?
Not only is raw free of aalll the unnecessary carbohydrates that are really just making your pet fatter, but it is very bioavailable, meaning your pet’s body knows exactly what to do with those calories, using it as fuel and not storing it as fat. Not to mention, it won’t spike their insulin levels, so they won’t constantly be in a pro-inflammatory state. The raw food we sell is completely balanced, very low in carbohydrates and hormone free, with added coconut oil to boot so you don’t have to!
Can’t I just feed a prescription weight loss food?
What would you rather live off for the rest of your life, diet ‘cardboard’ tasting food or real fresh whole foods?
Besides, here are some of the ingredients in most commercial prescription weight loss foods:
  • Corn gluten meal
  • Soybean oil
  • Whole grain corn
  • Whole grain wheat
  • By-products
Remember, lean pets have a body that support epigenetic tags that signal the right gene expression and promote vitality. In the end, it will save you vet visits and you will have a healthier and happier pet. Who doesn’t want that?
